Abstract

We explored the relationship between computational thinking and mental processes in early childhood. 62 kindergarten children (aged 5-6) performed an unplugged coding task and computerized assessments of executive functions. Coding and debugging were associated with switching, algorithm design with working memory, providing evidence for the componential nature of computational thinking.
