Abstract
Depression may reduce flexibility in responding to changing social cues. In a Cyberball study (N = 62), higher depressive symptoms predicted weaker updating of social expectations when shifting from exclusion to overinclusion, while affective and physiological responses remained intact. This selective expectancy-updating difficulty may contribute to social disconnection in depression.
