Through Fresh Eyes: Newcomers’ Place Choices and Neighborhood Perceptions

We examined where newcomers go and how they define their neighborhood. Using surveys, GPS-based location history, and a neighborhood-drawing task with 67 first-year and 62 upper-year undergraduates, we found that newcomers more often visited on-campus and public places, and were more likely to define familiar, predictable areas as their neighborhood.
