Abstract
This study used a public goods game to examine how punishment, reward, and social value orientation shape cooperation. Punishment was generally more effective, but the active use of rewards also fostered strong cooperation. Prosocial individuals favored reward and consistently punished free-riders, underscoring the role of group composition in institutional design.
