Trait Awe Predicts Lower Trait Parochial Empathy and Parochial Schadenfreude

We studied whether awe negatively predicts parochial empathy and schadenfreude in politics at trait level. Prolific participants(n=291) reported political identity, trait emotions, self-other overlap, and personality. Results show (1)awe predicts lower parochial emotions, (2)awe negatively predicts outgroup schadenfreude in Democrats but positively in Republicans, and (3)self-other overlap wasn’t a mediator.
