Wise and Well: Does Giving Helpful Advice Lead to Happiness for an Advisor?

People frequently share advice with others. Does doing so promote the advisor’s well-being, akin to engaging in other prosocial behaviors? We propose the first well-powered, preregistered experiment to investigate whether giving advice promotes happiness, and whether this effect is moderated by the fulfillment of the advisor’s basic psychological needs.
