Abstract
This study tested two competing intergenerational mechanisms linking maternal adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) to their children’s cognitive and emotional development—namely, maternal perinatal mental health and biomedical risk. Mediation analyses revealed that maternal ACEs are indirectly associated with child outcomes through maternal mental health symptoms, but not biomedical risk.
