Semantic Knowledge Guides Innovation and Drives Cultural Evolution

This study demonstrates that semantic knowledge drives human cumulative culture. Combining agent+based simulation with a behavioral experiment (N = 1,243), we show that semantic understanding guides innovation and synergizes with social learning to accelerate cultural change, identifying it as a crucial cognitive process for complex human evolution.
