Shame Proneness and Empathy: Testing Shame Coping Styles and Vulnerable Narcissism As Moderators

Does vulnerable narcissism strengthen the predicted negative relationship between shame proneness and cognitive empathy? An online survey of Tennessee university students did not find support for this predicted model. Instead, a positive relationship between shame proneness and cognitive empathy was discovered, as well as moderation by particular shame coping styles.
