Abstract
Given constant pressure, professional musicians use situationally appropriate relaxation methods, like breathing techniques. We explored mindfulness as a relaxation technique and a potential performance-enhancing psychological skill. Seven high-anxiety aspiring musicians were administered an eight-week mindfulness program with pre- and post-intervention assessments. It reduced anxiety and enhanced performance by restricting over-arousal.
