Abstract
We investigated whether people can deliberately inhibit the emotional responses triggered by reminders of negative memories. Using a novel Feel/No-Feel task, we show that affect stopping reduces distress and produces blunting-induced forgetting, impairing later recall of unwanted memories across a range of memory recall tests.
