Abstract
Three preregistered vignette studies (N = 1062) investigate how people evaluate others’ pain based onalleged self-report and fMRI data. Participants trusted fMRI more than subjective reports. These epistemic preferences highlight biases that may distort judgment of others’ pain and influence decisions, including potential implications for clinical and everyday contexts.
