Pre-Entry Career Goal Clarity Predicts Later Job Satisfaction Via Interest- and Ability-Based Job Selection

Across four studies (total N = 908) using complementary methods—retrospective reports, multi-wave panel data, and prospective field data—we find that individuals’ career goal clarity prior to entering the organization predicts the degree to which interest- and ability-based considerations guide their job choice and ultimately, their job satisfaction.
