Gender Signals Sincerity: Women Respond More Positively to Female Than Male Empathy

Abstract
With 299 Chinese women, this study examined whether empathy toward sexism is received differently depending on the gender of the empathizer. Results showed that female empathizers were perceived as more sincere than male empathizers, and higher perceived sincerity was associated with more positive evaluations and greater hope for gender equality.
