Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between literary fiction exposure, empathy, and mentalisation in 258 Turkish university students. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed reading significantly predicted higher empathy but not mentalisation. While existential concerns correlated with both constructs, findings suggest literary fiction predicts empathic sensitivity rather than mentalising, implying distinct underlying processes.
