Abstract

Women are underrepresented in STEM in part due to the perception that quantitative fields undervalue communally-focused goals. We examined communal topics in manuscripts in finance and economics. Women are more likely to author communally-focused papers. Although communal papers receive more citations, they have a lower publication likelihood in top journals.
