Enhancing Identity-Safety In Therapy: An Intersectional Approach and Intervention to Minimize Double Jeopardy for Black Women

We explored whether Black women experienced heightened social identity threat when anticipating interacting with a White male therapist. Across three studies (total n = 737), we found that they anticipated more social identity threat from a White male therapist, but this threat was reduced when the therapist conveyed cultural competence.
