Integration of Anecdotal Evidence with Ambiguous and Non-Ambigious Statistical Evidence

Abstract
We investigated how people integrated anecdotal and statistical information in a horse racing gambling paradigm. Participants read anecdotes and then received statistical evidence. Surprisingly, decisions were heavily influenced by statistical cues (Expt. 1); this effect was attenuated when statistical cues were more ambiguous regarding the target breed performance (Expt 2).
