Perceived Diffusion of Attention: More Authentic Emotional Expression In a Group

We examine how interaction context influences emotional expression. In a mixed-design experiment (N=491), we found that participants felt less observed and expected to be less friendly toward disliked others in group versus one-on-one settings, suggesting that individuals have less impression management concerns and express emotions more authentically in group contexts.
