Abstract
Caregiver separation results in long-term social-emotional challenges for children. Early placement in optimal caregiving environments buffers these effects. This study highlights the differences in mental health and developmental outcomes between very young children placed either early or late into foster care and how additional caregiving-related adversity affects their developmental progression.
