Abstract

Mental health apps often falsely claim to be "evidence-based,” potentially misleading consumers. This preregistered experiment (N=621 American adults with anxiety/depression symptoms) tested how scientific language influenced users' app perceptions. Scientific framing significantly enhanced perceived effectiveness, usage intentions, and quality while reducing risk perceptions, regardless of individual differences.
