Abstract
We explored the alignment between borderline personality disorder (BPD) patients’ values and behaviors as a mechanism of change in BPD Compass, a personality-based cognitive-behavior therapy for BPD. Participants most valued personal growth, health, and friendships. Values-behavior alignment increased quadratically across treatment, and within-person increases predicted session-to-session reductions in BPD symptoms.
