People, Robots, and Dolls: Better False Belief Understanding Increases Mental States Attributions When Motivated to Share True Beliefs

Abstract
Children often attribute mental states to human and non-human entities, including social robots. This research explored associations between theory of mind and mental state attributions to a human, a robot, or a doll. Results highlight children’s developing social cognitive capacities as nuanced and distinct abilities.
