Abstract

We explored effects of adding semantic elaboration to storybook readings on vocabulary learning and reading in kindergarten. Following a repeated storybook reading paradigm, participants demonstrated a greater degree of knowledge for target vocabulary presented with additional semantic elaboration; they also had superior performance on a learn-to-read task for these words.
