Abstract

Latino/a preschoolers’ display rules develop through culturally-guided parenting and emotional reactivity, reflecting cultural norms for emotional expression and social development. In 219 families, parent calm authority predicted fewer disruptive reactions, while higher emotional reactivity predicted more limit testing in the disappointing gift task, suggesting parenting and temperament shape emotion regulation.
