Abstract

Diversity-excellence trade-off (DETO) beliefs refer to the view that diversity stands in conflict with excellence. Those who hold these beliefs perceived scholarship applicants that hold diversity-related achievements as less excellent and in turn were less likely to select them, even when they were equal in merit to other candidates.
