Abstract

We investigated emotion regulation and cognitive flexibility in 186 Turkish young adults (Mage= 22.51). Using the ERQ and CFI (α ≥ .70), we found cognitive reappraisal positively predicted flexibility. Expressive suppression, unexpectedly, positively predicted flexibility (r = .32, p < .01). This suggests cultural context defines adaptiveness.
