Abstract

Pre-semester welcome emails can build instructor-student rapport, but demographic cues matter. Students evaluating an older instructor expected more negative age-related behaviors than those evaluating a younger instructor. Instructor gender showed no independent effect, though age stereotypes trended stronger for women instructors. Subtle demographic information can trigger biases affecting student expectations.
