Abstract

Are the motor experiences of infants significantly different when they feed themselves? We developed a pilot study to observe 16 infants during a normal meal and recorded the frequency of self-feeding and motor movements. Self-feeding was positively related to whole-hand grasping, pincer grasping, and total motor skills, controlling for age.
