Abstract
Rapid threat detection is critical for survival. In humans, visual studies linked this ability to fast magnocellular “low roads” from thalamus to amygdala. By integrating functional and anatomical evidence, our findings support the existence of a comparable fast auditory “low road”, sensitive to magnocellular-selective cues for threat processing in humans.
