Inducing Cis-Trans Similarity to Reduce Transphobia: The Role of Identity Threat and Gender Identification

We explored the effect of a brief intervention promoting cis-trans similarity on cis adults' (N = 345) attitudes toward trans people. For high gender identifiers, perceived similarity (vs. control) worsened attitudes toward trans people through identity threat and gender essentialism. The opposite pattern occurred for low identifiers with their gender.
