Motivation Quality Matters: Autonomy Drives Career Development

We examined employees' motivation in career development. Adults (N = 400; 219 males; M_age = 30.28) reported contextual motivation, completed a 7-day experience-sampling protocol assessing situational motivation, and were tracked for employability activities over one and two years. More autonomous contextual motivation predicted higher situational motivation and greater employability engagement.
