Ending a Sentence with a Preposition Is Not Very Disruptive to Readers

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether reading is disrupted when a sentence ends in a preposition.  Using eye-movement data, results indicated that readers are only mildly disrupted when there is a long gap between the preposition and its relative pronoun, but no disruption existed with short gaps.
