"Haunted Asylum" Imagery Does Not Increase the Stigma of Mental Illness

The public's fascination with the view that shuttered psychiatric hospitals are haunted may worsen mental illness stigma. One hundred one participants viewed a video of a shuttered psychiatric hospital that emphasized its architecture, psychiatric treatment, or paranormal themes. There was no evidence that that the paranormal video worsened stigma.
