Existential Anxiety and Psychological Defense Mechanisms in the AI Era: A Mixed-Methods Study

This research investigates how AI-induced existential uncertainty triggers psychological defense mechanisms. Using mixed methods (questionnaire and semi-structured interviews), we compare high- and low-anxiety individuals and their use of different defense strategies. We hypothesize that individuals with higher existential anxiety will rely more on primary defenses (e.g., repression, denial, displacement).
