Metacognition: The Impact of the Perceived Role and Accuracy of Automated Technology in Decision-Making

This study explored how digital tools affect an operator’s metacognition by investigating how these technologies are perceived and behave and how they can improve situational awareness. We found that users aided by technology assigned to the role of “tool” rather than “teammate” perceived themselves to be more accurate.
