In a clinical sample of mothers with substance use disorders, specific dimensions of parenting were found to operate as protective buffers against the impact of parental substance use on young children’s emotional dysregulation and conduct problems. Thus, parental addiction confers greater risk but can also provide a protective resilience-promoting context.
