Abstract

This proposal investigates how generative AI chatbots use emotional cues (e.g., emojis) in health-related interactions. Using the NURSE framework of empathic communication, the project will analyse an LLM-based chatbot's responses to patient messages on r/AskDocs. Findings can contribute to improved understanding of emotion communicatoin, healthcare and AI chatbot design.
