"Chicken Soup for the Soul": Foreign Language Effect in Self-Compassion Quotes -- Perceived Support, Psychological Distance, and Stress Reduction

This exploratory study examined the foreign language effect on self-compassion quotes among 120 bilingual students (Mage = 19.7). L1 (Chinese) reduced stress more than L2 (English), η² = .088, while L2 increased psychological distance, d = 1.21. Perceived support did not differ. Findings support language-sensitive emotional regulation strategies.
