Reporting Confidence Reduces the Benefits of Response Revisions in Perceptual and Memory Tasks

Abstract
We investigated whether explicitly assessing one’s confidence during simple decisional tasks improves metacognitive regulation and thus the final result. We found no evidence that the requirement to assess confidence improves task performance. On the contrary, the results show that it reduces the benefits of response revisions.
