Green with Empathy – Empathy Moderates the Motivational Pathway to Environmental Behaviours

Environmental motivation and empathy are two known determinants of pro-environmental attitudes and behaviours (PEB). However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Multigroup path analysis revealed that motivation’s effect on PEB varied by empathy level, while its effect on attitudes remained stable. Findings offer insight to improve environmental interventions.
