Abstract

The effects of expressive writing, benefit-focused writing and non-emotional writing were assessed in a sample of college students.  Expressive writing reduced anxiety symptoms while benefit-focused writing reduced anxiety and depression symptoms.  The degree of negative tone utilized in the writing was positively correlated with symptoms of depression and anxiety.
