Abstract
We conducted an fMRI study to examine partner-specific processing in the nucleus accumbens (NAcc). Forty-seven male participants performed a social incentive delay task. We found the partner was represented distinctively in the NAcc, with this specificity diminishing over time, illuminating the neural mechanisms underlying the dynamics of romantic relationships.
