Abstract
Our study examined how childhood maltreatment types impact adult self-perception. Among 481 U.S. adults, hierarchical regression revealed emotional neglect as the strongest predictor of negative self-perception, while other abuse types showed minimal independent effects. Findings highlight emotional neglect's unique detrimental impact on core identity and belonging in adulthood.
