Abstract

This study explored how childhood treatment by persons of influence (PIs) beyond caregivers, such as other family members, friends, teachers and coaches, impacts schemas. Among 170 U.S. participants, regression analyses revealed significant associations across multiple PIs, with degradation/rejection, control, and overprotection/overindulgence emerging as key patterns and influencing long-term psychological development.
