Bodily Contributions to Emotion: A Constructionist Roadmap
- Jennifer MacCormack
University of Virginia
Abstract
Psychologists have long debated whether bodily changes can help constitute, not just result from, emotions. Today, constructionist theories argue that emotional experiences are constructed in part from the body’s ongoing internal state. I highlight experimental, pharmacological, and neuroscientific approaches for mapping pathways by which the body can contribute to emotion.
