Feeling Special Reduces Perceived Economic Inequality

Abstract
We demonstrate a strategy that can reduce perceived economic inequality: obtaining special-edition products. Two experiments found that people who received the special edition (vs. regular) product perceived the economic inequality to be lower. Felling special mediates this effect. Our findings offer insights into utilizing symbolic experiences to influence inequality perceptions.
