Exploring the Impacts of Strength and Stigma on Black Women’s Experiences Navigating Healthcare Settings
- Jasmine Perry
Abstract
Using interviews with 14 U.S. women, I identified two themes related to how expectations for Black women to be physically strong and emotionally withdrawn shape and constrain Black women navigating healthcare settings, each with two subthemes. Theme 1: Interactions with providers. Theme 2: Requirements for healthcare service utilization.
