A Preference for Less? Ideal Romantic Partner Preferences across Experiences of Social Disempowerment

Powerless individuals face many challenges in their relationships, which may leave them hesitant to rely on partners for support. Three studies (total N = 1,231) investigated this idea across different indicators of disempowerment, showing that as disempowerment increased, participants’ preference for support from their romantic partner across various goals decreased.
