Abstract
We studied how the expectation of high or low pain might influence sympathetic arousal during the same level of painful heat stimulation. In 135 healthy volunteers, an effect of cue was observed on average SCR, suggesting that the expectancy of high pain can increase sympathetic arousal during painful experiences.
